Job summary

Position Overview:

This position oversees and implements university safety and security policies to create a safe and secure environment for the university community both day-to-day and during event operations. This position also plays a key role in establishing and strengthening relationships with on-campus and off-campus stakeholders through providing exemplary customer service.

This is an essential position that may be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.

Duties may include:

• Conduct general security patrol on campus and at events and report emergencies to university, city or state officials
• Assist with Safe Walks, extra patrol requests, building lockouts and on‑call notifications
• Enforce university alcohol policies
• Monitor access control, check credentials, check tickets and enforce clear bag requirements
• Other duties as assigned

Required Experience:

• Using computer software and applications including word-processing software, spreadsheets, email and internet
• Working in a team environment to accomplish shared goalsFollowing documented policies and procedures

Required Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Other:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be able to work a non‑standard schedule to meet the needs of the department
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university‑owned vehicles

Additional Preferred:

• Knowledge of safety and security operations and best practices
• One year experience as a safety/security officer
• Demonstrated competence with written and verbal communication

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

• Must be able to:
  • Move around and between venues throughout the workday
  • Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 40 pounds occasionally
  • Bend, stoop, shovel and be comfortable working at significant heights
  • Traverse any part of campus including asphalt, sidewalks, grass, dirt, playgrounds, etc.
  • Sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Work in inclement weather conditions
