Read our 2025 Annual Report and visit our website (www.internet2.edu) to learn more about us.

Position Summary:

Internet2 is seeking an Event Marketing Specialist to own the marketing strategy and execution for its two flagship events: the Global Summit and Technology Exchange, which draw anywhere between 450–650 attendees from institutions across the U.S. and internationally. Email is the primary channel for driving registrations to these events, and each event campaign involves 40+ targeted emails sent across a diverse, segmented audience of 18,000+ contacts. This role sits within a small, integrated marketing and communications team and works closely with peers in strategic communications, digital experience, and convening to deliver cohesive, high-impact event campaigns.

In this role, you will craft tailored messaging that resonates across a wide range of reader profiles, from network engineers and IT architects to C-suite leaders, international participants, and first-time attendees. You will own the full email curriculum for both events: from strategy and content development through automation, A/B testing, and performance optimization. Beyond email, you will coordinate multi-channel promotion efforts spanning digital advertising, community amplification, social proof, and in-event engagement to maximize reach and registration conversion.

Internet2 also supports additional community convening opportunities, and this role may be called upon to provide marketing support for those efforts as needed.

Email Strategy & Content

  • Own end-to-end email strategy and execution for Global Summit and Technology Exchange, managing 40+ emails per event across the full attendee lifecycle.
Execute the event content strategy through targeted campaigns and automated journeys that engage prospective and returning attendees, nurture leads, support registration, and drive conversions.
  • Write compelling, audience-focused copy and continuously optimize campaign performance through testing, analysis, and measurement of key engagement and growth metrics.
  • Support list growth by identifying opportunities to capture new contacts through event landing pages, gated content, and registration pathways.

Multi-Channel Event Promotion

  • Coordinate event promotion across industry publications, digital channels, and owned platforms, ensuring timely execution and consistent messaging.
  • Develop promotional assets, including attendee testimonials, case studies, speaker highlights, short-form videos, community spotlights, and event recaps.
  • Align event marketing campaigns with broader organizational marketing and communications strategies to maximize reach and impact.

Campaign Production Collaboration

  • Serve as a member of the Strategic Communications team, partnering closely with Convening, Digital Experience, and other stakeholders to execute integrated event marketing campaigns.
  • Partner with the Director of Community Events team to align email cadence and messaging with key event milestones, including calls for proposals, registration milestones, submission deadlines, program announcements, surveys, and post-event communications.
  • Collaborate across Strategic Communications, Digital Marketing, Web Experience, Creative, Content Marketing, and Partnership Marketing teams to align messaging, campaign timing, audience targeting, and performance measurement.
  • Coordinate with internal advocates, sponsors, and community partners to amplify key event milestones and campaign messages across email, professional networks, community channels, and owned platforms.

Quality Assurance & Approvals

  • Manage campaign review, approval, and quality assurance processes, ensuring communications are accurate, compliant, personalized, functional, and delivered on schedule.

In-Event Marketing Experience

  • Develop expertise in Internet2's event mobile app platform and leverage in-app messaging, push notifications, and on-site engagement opportunities to enhance event marketing campaigns.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Possesses exceptional writing skills and can adapt messaging to resonate with a wide range of audiences, from highly technical practitioners to senior executives, while leveraging data and insights to continuously optimize performance.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, balancing creativity with strong project management and attention to detail, and is comfortable owning complex, multi-touch campaigns from concept through execution and analysis.
  • Energized by Internet2's mission, enjoys working across cross-functional teams, and is motivated by connecting communities through impactful events and communications.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing (or related field); or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in event or integrated marketing, with a strong focus on copywriting, audience segmentation, multi-channel campaign execution, and measurable engagement outcomes.
  • Experience with Pardot or a similar marketing automation platform.
  • Experience managing large email databases, developing audience segments, and executing high-volume campaigns across multiple audiences simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to write clear, persuasive, audience-focused content that drives engagement and conversion.
  • Experience coordinating integrated marketing campaigns across digital advertising, social media, and other channels.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate campaign data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% per year within the United States to support Internet2 events and attend team planning meetings.
  • Cover letter required, highlighting directly relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing persona-based content strategies and audience-focused messaging for diverse audiences, from technical practitioners to executives.
  • Experience creating event marketing assets, including testimonials, case studies, peer endorsements, and short-form video content.
