Job summary

Tufts Medicine is seeking a part-time Patient Access Specialist at our Onsite Tewksbury Urgent Care location. The schedule is 24 hours per week, Tue–Fri 3:00 PM–8:00 PM and every other weekend 4:00 PM–8:00 PM.

A full-time equivalent training during the day Mon–Fri is required, with at least one summer holiday. The role focuses on revenue cycle tasks: billing, collections, payment processing, and patient registration data collection to facilitate services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• One year of experience in customer service, hospital registration, medical office, or insurance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-registration tasks for inpatients/outpatients to collect demographic, financial, and clinical data for financial clearance.
• Obtain consent for treatments and authorizations; explain signature requirements clearly.
• Verify insurance eligibility and ensure correct plan codes are used; educate on coverage.
• Collect auto/worker's compensation registration information when applicable.
• Inform patients of financial liabilities based on benefits and charges.
• Assist in patient payments and explain payment policies; handle card payments.
• Post payments and verify accuracy in the system per guidelines.
• Provide Financial Counselor contact information to eligible patients and document financial state.
• Obtain necessary authorizations/pre-certifications and attach verifications.
• Deliver excellent customer service and maintain professionalism with patients.
• Interact respectfully with physicians, nursing units, and staff.
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant confidentiality and data privacy.
• Meet productivity and customer service benchmarks for the area.
