Job summary

South Shore Health in Weymouth, MA is seeking an experienced Unit Coordinator/Secretary for the SSH Cardiac Pratt 5 unit. You will act as a liaison among nursing staff, patients, physicians and hospital departments, handling communications, requisitioning and supplies to support efficient patient flow.

The role requires coordinating orders, updating bed and PCS systems, booking appointments, ensuring timely discharge documentation, and maintaining accurate shift reports while upholding safety

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED preferred.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
• Basic computer knowledge is preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
• Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, the patient, the physician, other hospital departments and visitors.
• Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient unit functioning.
• Scans orders to Pharmacy and alerts nurse to STAT orders; reviews and follows up on CPOE orders.
• Keeps bed track and PCS systems up to date; books appointments through central scheduling.
• Ensures discharge disposition is entered accurately and in a timely manner; faxes discharge paperwork and reconciliation to providers.
• Manages unit workflow: daily chart audits, shift reports, and patient rounds.
• Orders supplies and collaborates with Operations Supervisor on par levels and vendor orders.
• Maintains safety/compliance and adheres to policies; supports patient-family centered care.
