Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Traffic Management Specialist to operate in the Traffic Operations Center in Asheville, NC. You will monitor roadways, respond to incidents, coordinate with responders, publish traveler information, and lead alerts nationwide.

The role requires strong communication, computer skills, and the ability to work second shift, weekends, and holidays as needed. The TOC operates 24/7 with a focus on safety and efficiency; training lasts 6–8 weeks and is conducted in the morning

Qualifications

• High school diploma; 90 day TOC training completed.
• Six months related dispatch/911 experience or comparable relevant experience preferred.
• Experience in a position involving public contact and telephone responsibilities preferred.
• Must be proficient with computer skills.
• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Must have good command of the English language.

Responsibilities

• Detect and monitor traffic incidents using congestion maps, cameras, radios and other technologies.
• Determine the appropriate response to incidents by assessing incident characteristics, impacts, resources and other factors.
• Document incident details and response activity in real time.
• Publish incident details on DriveNC.gov and create traveler information to help motorists avoid affected roadways.
• Activate electronic roadside message boards to warn motorists and reroute traffic.
• Relay critical intel to NCDOT and emergency responders in real time.
• Coordinate with IMAP and NCDOT field staff including maintenance and traffic signal technicians.
• Manage statewide alerts (Amber, Silver, Blue, Fugitive) as needed.
• Handle mass intake and output of weather information and roadway conditions during major events.
• Coordinate with DOT agencies from other states and serve as primary NC traffic ops contact.
• Research and review planned construction, maintenance and events.
• Execute response plans for planned events and unplanned incidents.
