Job summary

Mercy Hospital of Buffalo is seeking an experienced surgical technologist to support the perioperative team. The role involves assisting the surgeon at the sterile field, maintaining aseptic technique, and supporting nursing care and patient preparation for surgery.

Qualifications

• High School graduate.
• Completed accredited surgical technology program and certified surgical technologist credential.
• US Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine Corps/Coast Guard/Public Health Service surgical tech training acceptable.
• Evidence of employment as a surgical technologist for one year within four years prior to January 1, 2015.
• Must complete annually fifteen (15) hours of continuing education to remain qualified.
• Three (3) years surgical tech experience in an OR setting.

Responsibilities

• Assists the surgeon at the sterile field by providing appropriate and adequate sterile instruments and other supplies during the operative procedure.
• Maintains the surgical field through aseptic practices.
• Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse as a member of the perioperative team.
• Assists in the nursing care and preparation of the surgical patient for surgery, including assisting with circulating duties as delegated by the RN.
• Responsible for the assembly of cases.
• Works cooperatively with ancillary departments and other team members.
• Participates in performance improvement initiatives.

Education

High School graduate

Completed accredited surgical technology program

Certified surgical technologist credential

US Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine Corps/Coast Guard/Public Health Service surgical tech training

Evidence of prior surgical technologist employment (1 year within 4 years before 2015)

Annual 15 hours continuing education

Three years surgical tech OR experience
