Job summary

The Staff Nurse I at UI Health provides direct patient care in a fast-paced Stepdown unit. The role requires strong nursing judgment, patient advocacy, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care.

Responsibilities include developing care plans, executing orders, educating patients and families, and supporting unit leadership. Illinois RN licensure, BLS, and ACLS are required; 24 hours per week in the 60% part-time evening shift with rotating weekends.

Qualifications

• Eligible for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois.
• Current BLS/CPR certification.
• ACLS certification or within 6 months of hire for main hospital.
• Effective communication with patients, families, and care teams.
• Intermediate computer skills and EMR proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Develops and updates the patient care plan based on ongoing assessment and family input.
• Collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care.
• Verifies orders and documents interventions in the EHR.
• Engages patients/families to develop educational plans.
• Responds to changing patient needs and prioritizes care.
• Supports colleagues and acts as a preceptor or resource as needed.
• Participates in leadership activities and strives for ongoing professional growth.
• Performs other duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
