Job summary

UI Health is seeking a Staff Nurse I for the 7E Stepdown unit in Chicago, IL. This 0.9 FTE role (36 hours per week) features a 3-12hr schedule with rotating weekends and flex nights.

The position emphasizes direct patient care, collaboration with the care team, and clinical leadership within a Shared Leadership model. The ideal candidate has 1-2 years in Med-Surg/Stepdown, IL RN licensure, BLS/ACLS, and strong communication and EHR skills.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years Med-Surg/Stepdown RN experience required.
• Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in IL; out-of-state licenses not accepted.
• Current BLS/CPR and/or unit-specific certifications.
• Current ACLS or within 6 months of hire for main hospital.
• Effective oral and written communication skills and EHR proficiency.
• Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and family input.
• Collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care.
• Verifies and implements orders and documents accurately in the EHR.
• Engages patient and family to develop an appropriate educational plan.
• Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to changing patient needs.
• Acts as Charge Nurse when assigned and supports staff with resources.
• Serves as preceptor or resource to other staff and students.
• Pursues continued professional growth and development.
• Other duties as assigned.
