Job summary

University of Washington Harborview Medical Center is seeking a Hospital Security Officer to protect life and property, enforce regulations, maintain order, and support safety for patients, staff and visitors across Harborview and offsite clinics. The role involves patrolling assigned areas, regulating access, de‑escalating incidents, and coordinating with hospital teams.

Evening shifts and full‑time status are available in a 100% FTE arrangement.

Qualifications

• High School graduation or equivalent.
• Two years of college in police science or allied field or equivalent experience.
• Valid driver’s license and no felony convictions.

Responsibilities

• Provide security by enforcing campus regulations and local, state, and federal laws.
• Physically restrain individuals during involuntary admissions and transfers.
• Patrol and inspect assigned areas on foot or by vehicle to maintain safety.
• Regulate and control access; operate walk-through and baggage scanner; document and store firearms for safekeeping.
• Serve as liaison with patients, visitors, and staff for safety matters.
• Perform verbal and/or physical de-escalation of out-of-control individuals; evict if necessary.
• Escort patients to ITA court and assist in Psychiatric unit procedures.
