Job summary

UW Medical Center-Northwest's Department of Public Safety in Seattle seeks a Hospital Security Officer to protect patients, staff and visitors across a 44-acre campus.

You will patrol, respond to calls, conduct safety escorts, and document incidents with clear reports. Requires high school diploma, valid driver's license, and campus security experience or college coursework. This is a 100% FTE evening-shift role with a shift premium.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• No previous felony convictions.
• Two years full‑time college in police science or allied field OR two years of police or campus security experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain security and safety through inspection of buildings and grounds.
• Possess superior customer service skills, offering support and understanding in dealing with patients, staff, faculty and visitors to the medical center.
• Tactfully confront individuals and gain their trust for authority, de-escalating anger to bring about satisfactory solutions.
• Investigate incidents and crimes with the aptitude to complete clear, concise and accurate incident reports and other documentation.
• Patrol and inspect interior and exterior of facility, on foot or in a vehicle. Respond promptly and safely to calls for assistance and “code” calls throughout UWMC.
• Evict, hold or detain persons when directed to do so by the appropriate law enforcement agency, clinical or administrative authority.
