Job summary

Shelter House is seeking a Residential Coordinator in Fairfax, VA to provide 24-hour awake coverage at a large emergency shelter serving families with minor children. The role emphasizes safety, crisis response, front desk oversight, and collaboration with case managers to support client plans.

Shift is Mon-Fri, 4pm-12am and requires maintaining a respectful, confidential environment while ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to agency policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years in human services field (mental health, housing instability, homeless or domestic violence) required.
• Ability to build strong relationships with clients and team members.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe shelter environment and monitor front desk interactions.
• Conduct rounds and monitor building grounds.
• Update daily log documenting client interactions and events.
• Collaborate with case managers to support service plans and progress updates.
• Facilitate shift exchanges and report daily activities for consistency.
• Complete shelter documentation in line with agency policies.
