Job summary

The Shelter Monitor at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington helps ensure a secure, respectful environment within Angel's Watch shelter. Reporting to the Shelter Program Supervisor, you will oversee shift-based activities, conduct guest intakes, log incidents, and support trauma-informed engagement with guests experiencing homelessness.

Working from a Housing First perspective, you will de-escalate conflicts, follow safety protocols, and collaborate with shelter staff and community

Qualifications

• Knowledge of customer service principles and ability to establish cooperative working relationships.
• Ability to motivate and engage clients and resolve problems before escalation.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily shelter activities and ensure safety and adherence to program rules.
• Conduct hourly facility wellness checks to identify hazards and maintenance needs.
• Enforce shelter guidelines with de-escalation and restorative approaches.
• Respond to emergencies and follow established protocols.
• Assist with preparing and distributing meals.
• Complete guest intakes and bed assignments with accuracy.
• Maintain real-time bed occupancy and availability records.
• Orient guests to shelter rules and services.
• Maintain shift logs and incident reports.
• Communicate critical information during shift handoffs.
• Provide trauma-informed support and connect guests with internal services.
