Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a Custodian for the swing shift (3:00pm–11:30pm) to perform cleaning, floor care, and restroom maintenance across campus facilities. The role requires high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of custodial experience, plus a valid Washington driver’s license and ability to travel between two schools as needed.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent and one year of experience in custodial work preferred; or any combination of experience and training providing the required knowledge, skills, and ability.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform heavy physical tasks.
• Willingness to work swing shift and travel between schools as needed.
• Washington State Driver’s License required and background checks as part of pre-employment.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, strip, and polish floors; vacuum carpets; clean restrooms and restock supplies.
• Move and arrange equipment and furniture for school activities; set up tables and chairs as needed.
• Report building or equipment issues and assist with maintenance tasks.
• Promote safety and proper use of cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Oversee or assist with snow removal and exterior grounds in winter.
