Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to join our clinical team at our Massachusetts facility. Responsibilities include collecting blood specimens, processing and labeling specimens, and ensuring accurate test ordering and communication with departments.

The role requires prior phlebotomy experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid driver’s license. The position supports evening shifts and on-site work with potential signing bonus eligibility.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Computer and keyboard proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Specimen Collection: Collect blood samples; venipuncture; age-appropriate protocols.
• Specimen Receiving and Distribution: Receive, label, prioritize, and transport specimens.
• Work Area Organization: Maintain clean drawing station; restock supplies; organize patient orders.
• Specimen Registration: Register courier-delivered specimens; troubleshoot printers as needed.
• Computer and Test Ordering Support: Use hospital information systems; order tests accurately; communicate with departments.
• Telephone Support: Answer and transfer calls; ensure coverage.
• Capillary Collection: Perform heel sticks and PKU collections; ensure sample quality.
• Resource Utilization: Adapt to workflow; cover home draws and drawing stations; provide feedback.
• General Lab Duties: Restock supplies; report low inventory; use PPE; periodic reviews.
• Emergency Room Support: Use Responder 5; ensure PPE compliance; train staff; timely draws.
• Age-Specific Competency: Apply growth and development knowledge to patient care.
