Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking Patient Care Technicians for the Medical Surgical Oncology Unit (4JPP) on the Medical Surgical Services Division. This is a 50% Evening shift, part-time position located in Iowa City, IA.

The unit is a 44-bed adult medical-surgical oncology unit within a nationally recognized cancer center. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, assisting with patient care, preparing for procedures, and supporting admissions/discharges.

Qualifications

• Minimum eligibility: ability to read, write and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs.
• Perform medical asepsis during skills such as phlebotomy, IV removal, Foley removal and care for medically isolated patients.
• Perform simple diagnostic/therapeutic procedures (enemas, preop skin prep, dressing changes, specimen collection, binders/braces).
• Assist with patient admission, transfers and discharges.
• Provide for patient comfort and personal hygiene; turn, position and ambulate patients; transport patients/equipment/supplies.
• Assist with feeding, hydration and intake records; assist with bedpans and urinals; document outputs.
• Participate in nursing care conferences and report pertinent information to the nurse in charge.
