Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Safety Observer to provide continuous safety monitoring in the Emergency Room setting. The role includes assisting with daily living activities, reporting safety concerns, and supporting nursing staff within the care team.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent; CPR certification within six months of hire is required. Previous healthcare experience is preferred, with opportunities to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• CPR Certification within 6 months of hire is required.
• Previous position held in a healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous safety observation of patients and document issues with designated staff.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living as directed by nursing.
• Monitor visitors to ensure no unsafe materials are shared with patients.
• Maintain 15-minute checks with proper documentation.
• Watch more than one patient when appropriate.
• Follow directions of the nurse in charge.
• May transport patients as directed by licensed staff.
• Assist with ancillary tasks when not observing patients (bed making, stocking).
• Float between departments to meet patient safety needs.
• Maintain patient dignity and advocate for patients.
