Job summary

Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) is seeking a flexible, non-licensed staff member to support nursing units with transport, room stocking, and basic patient care. The role operates under the direct supervision of the shift primary nurse and serves adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Responsibilities include vital signs, patient positioning, ADL assistance, and accurate documentation. NGHS emphasizes patient safety and teamwork, with in-house training pathways for new staff.

Qualifications

• Licensure or other certifications: CCHT certification (for dialysis unit only).
• Educational requirements: High School Diploma, GED, or high school transcript showing completion of at least the sophomore level of high school.
• Minimum Experience: No previous experience is required. Candidates who have not completed Foundations of Nursing course (RN students only), have less than six months of PCT experience, or do not hold a CNA will be enrolled in NGHS’s in-house PCT Academy.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and reports basic patient physiological data (vital signs, weight, skin condition).
• Uses proper body mechanics and assists with positioning, mobility, ADL, and comfort as directed.
• Monitors intake and urine output and records on forms.
• Identifies and reports changes to licensed staff.
• Organizes patient care and prioritizes based on physician/nurse orders.
• Performs therapeutic procedures within job scope and reports patient responses.
• Makes rounds and responds to patient call lights promptly.
• Orients patient/family to unit and greets them positively.
• Explains procedures or care before starting.
• Records patient data accurately and timely.
• Attains proficiency with IT systems to support documentation.
• Answers telephone politely and routes calls to appropriate staff.
• Places reports in patient chart or forwards to appropriate units.
• Contributes to patient safety via universal precautions and hygiene; maintains isolation supplies.
• Distributes linens and ice; offers refreshments as allowed.
• Replaces telemetry batteries; transports patients as needed.
• Cleans and restocks; maintains rooms ready for new admissions.
• Participates in staff meetings with limited absences.
