Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis – Emergency Department is seeking a Patient Access Representative who will be the first point of contact for patients and families, delivering compassionate service while registering, verifying benefits, and obtaining accurate demographic information.

This PRN evening-shift role focuses on insurance verification, financial clearance, and ensuring compliant, smooth patient entry into our ED.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One to three years of customer service/registration experience preferred.
• Healthcare, hospital, or patient access experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients with professionalism and verify demographic/insurance information.
• Accurately register patients and confirm records with two identifiers.
• Verify insurance eligibility and communicate patient financial responsibility.
• Balance cash drawers and collect payments per policy.
• Maintain HIPAA privacy and adhere to EMTALA and Joint Commission standards.
• Support patient access in a fast-paced Emergency Department.
