Job summary

Jefferson Health Northeast seeks a Patient Access professional for the Outpatient Registration and Emergency Department areas in Cherry Hill, NJ. You will gather demographic data, verify insurance using RTE/Phreesia, obtain IDs and insurance cards, and enter orders with medical necessity review.

The role requires 3+ years in healthcare customer service, knowledge of EPIC/Cerner, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Required High School Diploma or GED, associate's degree in healthcare or business administration preferred
• Emergency Department: Minimum 3 years' experience in hospital, physician practice, or other related healthcare environment customer service. Prior registration experience in Emergency Dept preferred.

Responsibilities

• Gathers accurate demographic information to identify patients with an existing medical record number or assign a new one
• Requests photo ID and insurance cards, scanning copies
• Records complete and accurate demographic and insurance information and enters orders and confirms medical necessity for outpatient visits
• Interviews patients to complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSPQ) questionnaire for all Medicare patients
• Uses Real Time Eligibility (RTE), Phreesia or payer websites to verify insurance coverage and benefits, including patient out-of-pocket liability
• Ensures proper referral and authorizations are on file as needed
• Completes activities with adherence to departmental and institutional protocols and regulatory/compliance requirements
• Rotates assignment to all points of service areas within Patient Access (Outpatient Registration and Emergency Department)
• Proficient with computer and Microsoft Office; familiar with EPIC and Cerner EHRs
• Knowledge of medical terminology and third-party insurance coverage including managed care plans
• Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills
• Meticulous attention to detail
