Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a support technician for Surgical Services. Under supervision, you transport patients to the operating room, deliver supplies, assist in preoperative scrubs, and help position and move patients, while also preparing equipment for sterilization.

Qualifications

• Read, write and understand English and perform simple numerical calculations.
• Ability to recognize changes in patient's condition and report to nursing staff.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques to ensure proper cleaning of rooms and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients to and from the surgical suite.
• Reviews preoperative patient charts and ensures forms are signed; informs nursing personnel of discrepancies.
• Assists in surgical room preparation by ensuring basic supplies are available.
• Cleans furniture and equipment between cases.
• Assists in prepping patients for surgery; lifts and positions patients; supports and holds patients for anesthesia injection.
• Routinely inventories, requisitions, and stocks supplies in allocated areas to meet needs.
• Picks up supplies and materials for Surgical Services from hospital areas; delivers cultures and specimens as appropriate.
• Assists in general cleaning and maintenance of Operating Room; cleans and prepares equipment for sterilization.
• Assembles patient record packs of charge slips for specific procedures.
