Job summary

Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist to join a multidisciplinary team. The role focuses on day-to-day laboratory operations, quality control, and procedure maintenance in a dynamic clinical lab setting.

You will perform clinical tests, ensure accurate results, and train team members. Hours are primarily evenings with rotating weekends and holidays, offering a robust benefits package for eligible staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's transcript showing Medical or clinical Laboratory Scientist degree or related degree.
• Bachelor's transcript showing Medical Technology degree.
• MLS - AMT certification within 1 year.
• MLS - ASCP certification within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for day-to-day operations of laboratory instrumentation or disciplines (inventory, quality control, calibration, reagent prep).
• Performs basic to complex clinical laboratory tests using established protocols and equipment.
• Distinguishes normal vs abnormal results and rechecks/alerts staff as needed.
• Communicates laboratory data to appropriate departments and individuals promptly.
• Critiques and correlates test results using theory and protocols.
• Participates in development of protocols, lab manuals, new equipment, CQI, or other labs projects.
• Provides technical guidance and trains new staff on equipment/procedures.
• Provides instructions on pre-analytical specimen collection and handling; may collect specimens.
