Job summary

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic in Columbus, OH seeks a Medical Lab Scientist or MLT for the 2nd shift (3:00 – 11:30 pm). The successful candidate will perform clinical testing in microbiology, monitor instrumentation, and report results accurately and promptly.

Responsibilities include QC testing, maintaining quality assurance, following safety procedures, recognizing and correcting problems, and consulting with supervision as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or an Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• Certification from ASCP or equivalent; eligible for certification.
• Must maintain active certification if applicable.
• Must have previous microbiology experience.
• Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs all clinical testing in the assigned department.
• Records and reports test results accurately and promptly.
• Performs and interprets quality control testing following established guidelines.
• Maintains a high level of quality assurance.
• Practices established safety procedures, including Universal Precautions and proper use of safety equipment.
• Recognizes problems by following prescribed strategies and makes necessary corrections.
• Where no criteria for decisions are present, consult with supervisor/manager.
• In absence of supervisor/manager, acts to determine final decision.
• Coordinates and evaluates new reagents, procedures and equipment as requested by supervisor/manager.
• Performs routine scheduled and specialized maintenance of laboratory equipment.
