Job summary

The YMCA Lifeguard role in Bath, ME focuses on safe supervision of the pool environment, enforcing rules, and responding to Emergencies with CPR and first aid in accordance with YMCA policy. Qualifications

• Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard and corresponding CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and Basic First Aid certifications.
• Redwoods training as assigned by the Aquatics Director (within 1 month of hire).
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and members.
• Effective interpersonal skills, with a customer service focus.
• Ability to work independently as well as within teams.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to details.
• Extremely reliable, dependable, and punctual.
• Good decision-making skills.
• Ability to take initiative and be self-motivated.
• Ability to use a computer for email, Internet, and any Y related software relevant to the position.
• Must be willing to work all open pool hours, including holidays and weekends.
• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Possess a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and ability to travel locally.

Responsibilities

• Maintains rescue readiness at all times with equipment and visibility.
• Position to protect entire assigned zone and ensure full area visibility.
• Avoid distractions and perform duties without personal interruptions.
• Aggressively scans the pool area and monitors patron safety.
• Enforces non-swimmer protection and safety rules; takes corrective action as needed.
• Clear the pool if unsafe and await remediation.
• Attend mandatory in-service training and staff meetings.
• Find coverage for shifts and notify supervisor as required.
• Perform off-scan duties such as water chemistry tests and incident documentation.
• Other duties as required.
