Job summary

MercyOne, part of Trinity Health, is hiring a Lab Assistant to support multiple laboratory departments by collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting tests essential for patient care. The role requires accurate handling of specimens, patient information, and testing workflows to ensure timely turnaround and data integrity.

You will perform venipunctures and other specimen collection, log specimens in LIS, label correctly, and assist in processing and problem resolution.

Qualifications

Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Strong computer skills and ability to learn new systems quickly.
Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Responsibilities

Performs venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks as appropriate and follows policy.
Accepts specimens and requisitions, manages add-ons and pending lists.
Identifies patients and specimens with two identifiers and labels correctly.
Registers and logs specimens in LIS and verifies adequacy and documentation.
Performs specimen processing and documentation per protocols.
Assists in resolving problematic specimens and test orders with staff/clients.
Follows safety, infection control, and chemical-handling procedures.
Operates laboratory information systems to support data entry and workflow.
Restocks supplies and participates in departmental projects as assigned.
