Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician to organize specimen collection requests, perform patient collection procedures, and oversee specimen transport and processing in a busy clinical laboratory.

The role includes processing, testing dispersal, and point-of-care testing, with opportunities to contribute to Lean practices and regulatory compliance. Minimum of associate degree or 1 year of lab experience required, plus strong teamwork and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in any field or 1 year of related laboratory experience required.
• Effective communication and ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood and other specimens from patients according to established standards and procedures.
• Labels, transports or stores collected specimens following Lean principles and standard work.
• Performs processing of specimens including centrifuging, separation, storage and distribution.
• Completes patient registration, test orders and data entry as required by standards.
• Identifies and resolves routine specimen acceptability and test order problems for on-campus specimens.
• Interprets inpatient/outpatient test orders to determine collection timing and specimen types.
