Job summary

Melrose/Wakefield Hospital is seeking a full-time General Maintenance Worker to support hospital buildings and grounds. The role covers a range of trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, tile, painting and roof maintenance, with duties spanning repairs, inspections and preventive tasks.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, at least one year in building maintenance, and on-the-job training in building trades. The job operates on evenings in a busy medical campus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of building maintenance experience.
• On the job training in one or more building trades.
• Completion of a vocational/trade school program.
• Two years of building maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Performs electrical repairs such as removal/ replacement of switches, ballasts, motors and controls.
• Performs plumbing tasks including drains, fixtures and rodding as assigned.
• Performs minor carpentry such as doors, shelving and locks.
• Repairs plaster, brickwork or concrete; soldering and welding as needed.
• Performs preventive maintenance on hospital equipment and systems.
• Inspects safety equipment installed throughout the hospital and maintains it.
• Maintains inventory and keeps storage area organized.
• Participates in snow removal and related tasks.
