Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Cleaner to maintain the cleanliness and care of hospital rooms, corridors, and related areas. You will work with staff across the organization, following safety procedures to ensure a spotless environment.

The ideal candidate is physically able, detail-oriented, and capable of effective time management with good communication. This is a full-time position on the Evening Shift (3:00pm–11:30pm) with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Must be physically able to perform tasks and communicate effectively.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand basic verbal communication.
• Previous experience in a hospital setting and/or hospital industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean floors, corridors, stairs and walls using mops, buffers and cleaning equipment.
• Collect, transport and dispose of medical waste or spoiled linens per procedures.
• Strip and wax floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; dust assigned areas.
• Clean and sanitize lavatories and locker rooms (sinks, urinals, toilets, showers, tile floors).
• Polish furniture and fixtures; move furniture and equipment as needed for cleaning.
• Remove hazardous articles and place in designated receptacles; assist with event setup.
