Job summary

Gorton Center in Lake Forest, IL is seeking an Evening Porter to keep our facility clean, safe, welcoming, and ready for events. This full-time role runs Wednesday through Sunday from 3 PM to 11 PM and involves setting up rooms, assisting with AV, and helping with seasonal building tasks.

You’ll work closely with the Director of Facilities and Lead Porter, report on maintenance concerns, and support guests, renters, and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in custodial, facilities, building management, hospitality or event support.
• Basic familiarity with building systems (HVAC, electrical, A/V, IT) is a plus.
• Friendly, professional presence with guests, renters and staff.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Keep public and shared spaces clean and tidy, including restrooms, theater, lobbies, hallways and meeting rooms.
• Set up and tear down rooms for events, classes and rentals, then reset spaces after.
• Support A/V for events and rentals in meeting spaces.
• Walk the building with daytime porter to ensure rooms are ready.
• Review daily room schedules and staff notes, flag discrepancies.
• Handle basic repairs, restock supplies, and report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Set up and take down signage, stanchions and wayfinding.
• Assist with seasonal and exterior tasks, including snow removal.
• Adapt on the fly when layouts change or extra help is needed.
