Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Marlborough, MA is seeking a Mental Health Counselor for the Emergency Room to provide direct patient care on an evening, part-time schedule. The role supports the mental health team on inpatient and outpatient units, focusing on treatment planning, documentation, and safe, therapeutic environments.

The position emphasizes de-escalation, group activities, and collaboration with R.N.s while maintaining HIPAA and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or at least 2 years’ experience in behavioral health required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support or Heart Savor certification required within one month as a condition of employment.
• AVADE required within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Two years’ experience in a health-related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participates as a member of the mental health team in inpatient/outpatient units.
• Provides direct patient care, treatment planning, and documentation.
• Maintains patient safety and conducts safety checks and de-escalation as needed.
• Documents daily progress notes and group notes per policy.
• Assists R.N. with medical and psychiatric interventions and patient care activities.
• Maintains patient care charts and participates in meetings and staff development.
