Job summary

Makom in Silver Spring, MD is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to join our team. The DSP will support individuals with IDD to lead self-determined, meaningful lives and engage in their communities.

We offer a Mon-Fri 3pm-10:15pm schedule and a culture rooted in Excellence, Inclusion, Integrity, and Self-determination. This role provides opportunities for professional development and meaningful, community-based work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; further education in human services or related field is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Active participation in cultivating a culture of communication among people we support, families, and staff.
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications and general computer skills.
• Maintain professionalism and positive relationships with individuals, families, colleagues, and external partners.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Person-Centered Support: Provide individualized support to help individuals lead self-directed lives.
• Skill Development: Support growth in line with PCP/ISP plans.
• Community Engagement: Create opportunities to engage with communities and build social networks.
• Daily Living Assistance: Help with ADLs and IADLs tailored to each person.
• Health & Safety: Ensure clean, safe living and work environments, and follow care plans.
• Adaptability: Evolve approach as needs change and collaborate with the support team.
