Job summary

Makom in Maryland seeks a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities live self-determined, meaningful lives. Join a mission-driven team dedicated to excellence, inclusion, integrity, and self-determination across MD, VA, and beyond.

As a DSP, you’ll provide person-centered support, skill-building, community engagement, ADL/IADL coaching, and health and safety oversight, while adapting to each person’s evolving needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; further education in human services or related field is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Actively participate in cultivating and sustaining a culture of communication with people we support, families, and co-workers.
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications and general computer skills.
• Maintain professionalism and positive relationships with individuals, families, colleagues, and external partners.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance and kneel to provide hands-on support.

Responsibilities

• Person-Centered Support: Provide individualized support based on each person’s unique skills, aspirations, and needs.
• Skill Development: Support skill-building and personal growth per PCP/ISP.
• Community Engagement: Facilitate opportunities to experience community and build social networks.
• Daily Living Assistance: Coaching for ADLs and IADLs tailored to needs.
• Health & Safety: Ensure clean, safe environments and compliance with care plans.
• Adaptability: Evolve approach as needs change and be part of the support team.
