Job summary

Makom in Silver Spring, MD is seeking Direct Support Professionals to help individuals with IDD lead self-determined, meaningful lives in their communities. The DSP role focuses on person-centered support, skill development, and daily living assistance, with accommodations for ADLs/IADLs and safety.

Shifts are Mon-Thu 3pm-10pm; compensation ranges $21.33–$31.46 per hour with benefits for full-time eligible staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; further education in human services or a related field is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Active participation in cultivating and sustaining a cultures of communication among people we support, families and co-workers.
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications and general computer skills.
• Maintain professionalism and positive relationships with individuals, families, colleagues, and external partners.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance and kneel to provide hands-on support.

Responsibilities

• Person-Centered Support: Provide individualized support based on each person’s unique skills, aspirations, and needs.
• Skill Development: Empower individuals by supporting skill-building and personal growth in alignment with PCP/ISP.
• Community Engagement: Facilitate opportunities for individuals to experience community and build social networks.
• Daily Living Assistance: Provide coaching and support for ADLs and IADLs tailored to each person's needs.
• Health & Safety: Ensure living and working environments are clean, safe, and meet care plans.
• Adaptability: Evolve approach as individuals’ needs evolve as part of their support team.
