Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• New Jersey Driver's License required.
• Black Seal Boiler Operator License required.
• Prior custodial, facilities, maintenance, or related experience required; supervisory or lead experience preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of custodial operations, building cleaning procedures, equipment, supplies, and proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
• Knowledge of basic building systems, including heating, ventilation, lighting, plumbing, and sanitation.
• Ability to organize, schedule, direct, and supervise custodial personnel across multiple District facilities.
• Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to respond effectively to building emergencies and operational concerns during second-shift hours and outside regularly scheduled working hours, as needed.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a multicultural and diverse school community.

Responsibilities

• Organize, schedule, direct, and supervise second-shift custodial personnel to ensure efficient operations throughout District facilities.
• Conduct regular inspections of school buildings, classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and grounds to ensure established standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and security are maintained.
• Monitor employee attendance, work assignments, performance, and completion of custodial responsibilities. Assist with employee training, supervision, and annual performance evaluations.
• Oversee the operation of building systems, including boilers, heating, ventilation, lighting, plumbing, and sanitation. Ensure required building and boiler checks are completed in accordance with District procedures.
• Coordinate custodial staffing, building preparation, and cleanup for evening school programs, athletic events, meetings, performances, community use, and other scheduled activities.
• Supervise custodial operations during school vacations, holidays, summer shutdowns, inclement weather, and emergency situations, including snow and ice removal.
• Monitor custodial supplies, materials, tools, and equipment; maintain accurate inventories; coordinate deliveries; and assist with purchasing recommendations and requisitions.
• Ensure compliance with District policies and applicable Federal, State, County, and local health and safety requirements, including PEOSHA, Right-to-Know, chemical handling, Bloodborne Pathogens, and fire safety regulations.
• Identify and report maintenance deficiencies, equipment failures, unsafe conditions, security concerns, and emergency repair needs. Coordinate with maintenance personnel and other Facilities Department employees to ensure timely resolution.
• Ensure District buildings are properly secured at the conclusion of the second shift, including appropriate checks of doors, windows, alarms, lights, equipment, and other designated areas.
• Maintain effective communication with the Director of Facilities and Grounds, building administrators, and District personnel regarding custodial operations, staffing, building conditions, emergencies, and operational priorities.
• Respond to building emergencies and provide supervisory coverage for other custodial shifts or Facilities Department functions as assigned.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent, School Business Administrator, Director of Facilities and Grounds, or their designee.
