Job summary

OPW in Whitsett, NC is seeking a Setup Technician to perform start-to-finish setup of manual/CNC mill/lathe machines to produce valve and regulator parts. You will read blueprints, start and operate machines, and conduct first article and in-process measurements.

The role emphasizes quality control, using calipers, micrometers, gages, and SPC data entry; you’ll troubleshoot minor machine issues, perform light maintenance, and support continuous improvement initiatives in a safety-focused

Qualifications

• Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra and basic shop math.
• Ability to read mechanical blueprints.
• Ability to lift 45 pounds and perform repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities

• Sets up manual/CNC and mill/lathe machines to produce metal valve and regulator parts in accordance with machine specifications.
• Starts machines, positions and secures workpiece, and engages bar feeding, cooling, and lubricating mechanisms.
• Reads blueprints and understands symbols for concentricity, runout, surface finish, machined surfaces, seat areas, and dimensions.
• Detects product defects, contains defects, and resolves issues.
• Works through machine malfunctions, performs basic troubleshooting, and makes minor adjustments as necessary.
• Replaces dull or worn tooling in machines using hand tools.
• Removes burrs, sharp edges, and tool marks from products using files, hand grinders, wire brushes, and power tools.
• Performs quality checks by collecting measurements with calipers, go/no-go gauges, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges and other measuring tools.
• Enters quality control data using Statistical Process Control System.
• Performs minor preventative maintenance, such as oiling/cleaning machines and adding coolant.
