Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a part-time Environmental Services Worker to perform general cleaning and housekeeping across campus facilities, including residence halls and administrative buildings, in Rochester, NY.

The role requires operating cleaning machines, following infection-control procedures, and maintaining cleanliness in work areas; evening shift is available under UR SEIU 023 H. Hourly pay ranges from $18.38 to $24.94, in line with the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

• Requires ability to understand and carry out oral instructions.
• Stands, walks, bends and reaches continuously.
• Handles heavy and medium-weight material, equipment and supplies.
• Exposed to refuse, dirt, dust, detergents, body wastes and odors; may encounter infection risk.

Responsibilities

• Performs general heavy and light cleaning and housekeeping services in University buildings such as residence halls, hospital, administration/academic buildings, etc.
• Operates a variety of light or heavy duty housekeeping and floor maintenance machines and equipment to strip, wax and buff floors; sweeps and dusts floors.
• Performs cleaning and disinfecting procedures by fogging rooms and washing floors, walls, furniture and fixtures with germicidal detergents.
• Washes walls, ceilings and stairs; cleans overhead equipment; vacuums rugs and furniture; washes windows; distributes linen.
• Maintains cleanliness of work storage closet and equipment used; may move equipment/furniture and perform related duties.
• Takes down/hangs draperies and blinds; cleans windows inside and outside.
• Empties wastebaskets, loads trucks, and maintains general custodial duties as assigned.
• Assists with other custodial tasks as required by supervisory staff.
