Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking an Evening Audio-Visual Systems Technician to support classrooms, conference spaces, and boardrooms. You will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair AV systems, working with faculty and staff to resolve issues while managing work-study students.

You will join a team-focused environment, but often work independently on site. Strong communication, cross-platform IT skills, and physical capability to lift 50 lbs are essential components of the role.

Qualifications

• Several years of experience in the audio-visual industry demonstrated.
• Experience managing people within AV environments.
• Proven background in customer support for AV systems.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot AV components and systems.
• Experience documenting issues and resolutions via a ticketing system.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android systems.
• Able to lift 50 pounds and work from ladders/scaffolding.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide preventative maintenance to AV systems and perform tests.
• Test each AV system as required or requested by users.
• Meet with end users to help resolve issues in spaces.
• Create and update help desk tickets after tasks complete.
• Support in-person, remote, and hybrid instructional needs.
• Troubleshoot reported or observed issues in assigned spaces.
• Update and maintain accurate equipment inventory.
• Install AV components and perform thorough post-install tests.
• Supervise and coordinate work-study students as needed.
