Job summary

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies seeks an experienced hardware safety engineer to design and implement safety requirements for ECUs in next‑gen electric vehicle architectures.

You will work with cross‑functional teams to apply ISO 26262/IEC 61508, perform FMEDA/FTA analyses, and help derive safety concepts and verification strategies across hardware sub-systems. Expect equity participation and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3–5+ years of functional safety design experience.
• Experience with ISO 26262 or IEC 61508.
• Develop safety requirements and safety concepts.
• Knowledge of FTA and FMEDA methods.
• Cross-functional hardware/software/manufacturing teamwork.
• Ability to derive hardware safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement hardware safety requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement safety requirements.
• Apply safety analysis methods (FTA, FMEDA) in hardware design.
• Derive safety concepts and FMEDA/FTA/PMHF as needed.
• Support reliability in deriving FIT rates for hardware components.
• Develop verification and testing methods for hardware safety.
• Write test procedures and verify hardware sub-systems.
• Document safety requirements and analyses for each sub-system.
