Job summary

Toyota North America is seeking a Contract Engineer for a 12-month assignment in Liberty, NC to support production preparation and launch of EV battery manufacturing equipment.

The role requires 5+ years in engineering, experience with AutoCAD/CATIA/Creo, and the ability to manage schedules, budgets, and lean manufacturing processes. Occasional travel up to 25% and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or similar technical field with 5+ years of equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with production preparation of Battery, Electronics or Chemical manufacturing equipment (3 years required, 5 years preferred).
  • Experience creating process plans and machine specifications using lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience leading capital projects with schedules, budgets and KPI reporting (3 years required, 5 years preferred).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, CATIA, Creo or similar; ability to read/modify 2D/3D drawings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint (intermediate or above).
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.
  • Ability to work weekends and shutdowns such as July and December.

Responsibilities

  • Lead procurement, validation, installation, pre-productions trials and launch of EV battery manufacturing equipment.
  • Create and manage detailed schedules and budgetary control for the assigned area.
  • Create battery manufacturing process plans and machine specifications applying lean principles and standards.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and civil design to engineering criteria and feedback.
  • Create explanatory documents and drawings for stakeholders including vendors and contractors.
  • Collaborate across functions to drive progress and achieve project goals.
  • Plan and monitor installation, identify field issues, and work with construction coordinators and builders to countermeasure.
  • Support safety culture and Toyota safety requirements.
  • Demonstrate quality-first leadership through pre-production and mass production trials.
  • Mentor peers and contribute to engineering standards and work instructions.
  • Participate in a mentor program to grow as an engineer.
