Job summary

Affirm is hiring a senior software engineer to lead EU card engineering. You will own architecture across cards and EU relationships, building scalable backend systems and working across product, design and analytics to ensure sustainable technical outcomes.

You will guide the team on a year-long technical strategy, foster code quality, and drive on-call readiness. This role focuses on Spain-based operations with visa sponsorship available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years of software engineering experience.
• Proficient in designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Proven ability to deliver major features and plan execution.
• Comfort with moving from low-level details to large system architecture.
• Strong collaboration and communication with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team over a year and align with business goals.
• Lead software engineering for all EU cards.
• Collaborate across product, design and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and risk management.
• Advocate for technical solutions and operational processes as a force-multiplier.
• Own team operations and availability with monitoring, runbooks, testing and on-call readiness.
• Set and enforce code review and design standards beyond the team.
• Develop talent by mentoring and providing feedback.
