Job summary

Kimmel & Associates in the DC area seeks an experienced Construction Estimator for a leading heavy civil contractor. The role focuses on developing accurate bids and coordinating with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and subcontractors throughout the bidding process.

The successful candidate will evaluate plans, determine labor/material requirements, assess production costs, and identify risks that could affect budgets and schedules, while meeting critical deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent estimating experience in heavy civil.
• Experience estimating heavy civil infrastructure and underground utility projects.
• Ability to work under tight bid deadlines with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Review plans and bid documents to determine scope and estimating requirements.
• Develop detailed cost estimates for heavy civil and underground utility projects.
• Calculate crew costs, labor classifications, equipment needs, and material quantities.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to set schedules, budgets, and potential challenges.
• Solicit pricing from suppliers/subcontractors and negotiate costs.
• Identify cost exposures and risks; discuss with Chief Estimator.
• Prepare bid packages and ensure timely submission.
• Update estimates for last-minute pricing changes.
