Kimmel & Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator for heavy civil and underground utility projects in the Washington, DC area.

The role focuses on developing accurate, competitive bids and coordinating with project stakeholders, suppliers, and subcontractors throughout the bidding process. The ideal candidate will evaluate project plans, determine labor and material requirements, assess production costs, and identify risks that could affect budgets and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent estimating experience.
• 2–3 years of full-time estimating experience in heavy civil construction and underground utilities.
• Strong understanding of plans, specs, labor, equipment, materials, and production rates.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, specs, and bid documents to define scope and estimating requirements.
• Develop detailed cost estimates for heavy civil and underground utility projects (wet/dry).
• Calculate crew costs, labor classifications, equipment, staffing, material quantities, and expenses.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to set schedules, budgets, and potential challenges.
• Solicit pricing from suppliers/subcontractors and negotiate competitive costs.
• Identify cost exposures and bid risks; communicate with Chief Estimator.
• Prepare bid packages; review estimates with Chief Estimator for alignment.
• Update estimates for last-minute pricing changes before deadlines.
• Lead turnover with Superintendent and PMs to transition to execution.
