Job summary

Atkinson Construction seeks an experienced Estimator to support our heavy civil projects. The Estimating/Preconstruction team prepares budgets, bids, and continuous preconstruction on active projects.

You will compile bidder lists, solicit quotes, price labor and materials, and review bids to ensure complete project costing. This role requires 4+ years in estimating, proficiency with HCSS, Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD, and the ability to lead or collaborate on multiple pursuits while

Qualifications

• 4+ years in heavy civil estimating or related field.
• Experience with HCSS Estimating software.
• Ability to lead or contribute on multiple projects concurrently.
• Proficiency with Heavy Bid, Bluebeam and AutoCAD preferred.
• Strong organizational, time‑management and communications skills.
• Familiar with conceptual, detailed and self-perform estimating.
• Field experience is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings/specifications.
• Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or related field.
• Commitment to Atkinson Standards of Excellence: integrity, teamwork, accountability.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of professionalism and ethical behavior when representing the Company.
• Analyze drawings, specs, proposals to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.
• Lead or perform portions of estimates for multi-discipline projects.
• Solicit subcontractor/vendor quotes and evaluate scope/qualifications.
• Lead meetings with subs to develop complete scopes and discuss strategy.
• Perform risk and contract management on bids.
• Assist in developing strategies to achieve minority participation.
• Review total estimate for accuracy before quotation.
• Monitor comparison of estimated vs actual costs.
• Promote continuous improvement in estimating methods.
