Job summary

Atkinson is seeking an experienced Estimator to support our heavy civil projects from our Austin-area operations. You will assist the Estimating/Preconstruction Department in preparing budgets, bids, and total project costs while soliciting subcontractor quotes and driving continuous improvement in estimating methods.

The role requires 4+ years in engineering or estimating, strong reading of drawings, and proficiency with HCSS Estimating, Heavy Bid, Bluebeam and AutoCAD.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of engineering, estimating, construction management, or field engineering in heavy civil.
• Experience with HCSS Estimating software.
• Ability to lead or contribute to multiple projects and pursuits.
• Familiarity with Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD preferred.
• Strong organizational, time management and communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specs.

Responsibilities

• Analyze drawings, specs, proposals to prepare time, cost and labor estimates.
• Lead or perform portions of estimates for multi-discipline projects.
• Solicit subcontractor quotes and evaluate for scope/qualifications.
• Lead meetings with subcontractors to develop complete scopes.
• Perform risk and contract management for bids.
• Support minority participation strategy and bid review.
• Monitor cost estimates vs actual costs and drive improvement.
