Job summary

Johnson Air Products in Portland, OR seeks an Estimator to prepare accurate equipment estimates and proposals by reviewing project documents and coordinating with Sales and manufacturers. The role centers on takeoffs, bid-ready quotations, and timely collaboration with internal teams.

Responsibilities include plans/specs review, equipment selection, and manufacturing coordination to ensure competitive offers.

Responsibilities

• PROJECT ESTIMATING - Review drawings, specs, equipment schedules and other bid documents; perform takeoffs; prepare accurate estimates within bid deadlines.
• PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS REVIEW – Review project plans and specifications to understand equipment requirements.
• EQUIPMENT SELECTION - Perform equipment selections using manufacturer selection software; coordinate equipment selections with Sales team and engineers; develop alternate equipment selections when requested.
• MANUFACTURING COORDINATION - Request pricing and equipment information from manufacturers; confirm pricing, options, accessories, freight, and lead times; participate in manufacturer training.
• QUOTE PREPARATION - Prepare clear and professional customer quotations; accurately describe equipment; identify quantities, options, and services; review quotations for accuracy.
• SALES TEAM SUPPORT - Works with Account Managers and Sales Engineers throughout the estimating process; participate in pre-bid meetings; identify opportunities for additional equipment and services.

Estimator Job Description

The Estimator is responsible for reviewing project documents and preparing accurate, complete, and competitive equipment estimates and proposals. This position works closely with the Sales Team and Manufacturers to identify project requirements, select appropriate equipment, obtain pricing, and prepare customer quotations.

Key Responsibilities

• PROJECT ESTIMATING - Review drawing, specs, equipment schedules and other bid documents; perform takeoffs; prepare accurate estimates within bid deadlines.
• PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS REVIEW – Review project plans and specifications to understand equipment requirements.
• EQUIPMENT SELECTION - Perform equipment selections using manufacturer selection software; coordinate equipment selections with Sales team, Senior Estimators, or manufacturer application engineers; develop alternate equipment selections when requested.
• MANUFACTURING COORDINATION - Request pricing and equipment information from represented manufacturers; confirm equipment pricing, options, accessories, freight, and lead times; participate in manufacturer products and application training.
• QUOTE PREPARATION - Prepare clear and professional customer quotations; accurately describe equipment being offered; clearly identify quantities, accessories, options, and services; review quotations for accuracy before submission.
• SALES TEAM SUPPORT - Works closely with Account Managers and Sales Engineers throughout the estimating process; participates in pre-bid meetings; identify opportunities for additional equipment, accessories, controls, startup, or related products.

QUALIFICATIONS

• HVAC or mechanicalsystem knowledge preferred.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Good organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable working with technical information and computerbased equipment selection programs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office application applications.
• Experience with CRM, ERP, estimating, or projectmanagement systems is beneficial.
