We are seeking an experienced pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) estimator with strong proficiency in Metal Building Software (MBS) and client-facing skills. In this role, you will manage estimates from the initial client conversation through proposal, revisions, and signed contract. You will review plans or assist with design-build projects, develop building pricing in MBS or coordinate with manufacturers, price all components within scope, and stay engaged with the client throughout the sales process.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage client intake: Work with owners, developers, and general contractor estimating teams. Understand project requirements, schedules, and the client’s needs.
- Review plans or support design-build: Estimate from architectural and structural plans or help clients develop a building scope for design-build projects.
- Complete takeoffs and scope reviews: Identify gaps, conflicts, and items requiring clarification. Prepare clear scope packages for manufacturers.
- Develop building design and pricing: Run buildings in MBS using manufacturer dealer access. Submit more technical projects to manufacturers for design and pricing, and coordinate the process through completion.
- Price ancillary components: Estimate all other items in scope, such as insulation, roll-up doors, and other components and accessories.
- Prepare complete estimates: Assemble estimates in the company’s estimating system.
- Coordinate internal reviews: Review estimates with the Senior Estimator and, when appropriate, the salesperson before submission.
- Present and sell proposals: Walk clients through proposals and communicate the value of the offering, not just the price.
- Manage revisions and follow-up: Work with clients to refine scope and pricing, and maintain consistent follow-up on every open proposal.
- Complete project handoffs: After contract execution, provide the project management team with an accurate, complete file. The team will rely on the estimating handoff to build and deliver the project.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in MBS, including setting up and running buildings for design and pricing.
- Strong working knowledge of PEMB systems, including framing, bracing, secondary members, roof and wall panels, trim, openings, and accessories.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural plans and specifications.
- Experience estimating PEMB projects for a manufacturer, dealer, builder, or erector.
- Strong sales and client-service skills.
- Excellent organization and follow-through in a high-volume bid environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience pricing ancillary scope, such as insulation, overhead or roll-up doors, and accessories.
- Exposure to erection, field installation, or furnish-and-erect contracting.
- Familiarity with other manufacturer quoting platforms.
- Experience with Florida and coastal code requirements, including high-wind and High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) requirements.
- Experience with CRM or bid-tracking systems.
Compensation & Work Arrangement
- Performance-based bonus structure
- Employer contribution to medical, dental and vision plans
- 401K with company match
- PTO and paid holidays
- Remote-based work with bi-annual travel for team building. Candidates willing to relocate to Ocala, FL and work on-site with the team are welcome.
- Training: Hands-on onboarding with the Senior Estimator on company procedures, systems and manufacturer relationships.
