PEMB Estimator – Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings

Location: Remote or Hybrid

Position Summary

The PEMB Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive project estimates, pricing proposals, contracts, and change orders for pre-engineered metal building projects. This role requires a strong understanding of PEMB systems, construction documents, architectural drawings, material takeoffs, and project coordination.

The ideal candidate will work closely with customers, sales teams, project management, architects, and production support teams to define project scope, evaluate specifications, and ensure estimates align with customer expectations and operational capabilities. This position is best suited for a senior estimator who can confidently manage complex bid opportunities, participate in negotiations, and support strategic project pursuits.

Strong communication skills, technical aptitude, negotiation capability, and attention to detail are critical for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Estimating & Proposal Development:
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and pricing proposals for PEMB projects based on drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Analyze project scope, material requirements, labor considerations, and production impacts to develop competitive and accurate estimates.
  • Generate quotations, contracts, clarifications, and supporting documentation for customer review.
  • Prepare and process change orders, revisions, and pricing updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support strategic bid opportunities and participate in project pricing discussions and negotiations when required.
• Blueprint, Architectural Drawing & Specification Review:
  • Interpret architectural, structural, and shop drawings to determine project requirements and scope.
  • Review bid specifications, engineering details, and contract documents for scope accuracy and risk identification.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information, constructability concerns, and cost risks during the estimating phase.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customers to clarify technical requirements and bid assumptions.
• Customer, Bid & Sales Coordination:
  • Communicate directly with customers, contractors, architects, and internal sales teams to clarify project scope and expectations.
  • Support the sales process by providing technical guidance, estimate breakdowns, and value-engineering recommendations.
  • Participate in bid reviews, pricing strategy discussions, and project negotiations as needed.
  • Support project handoff meetings to ensure alignment between estimating, engineering, and operations teams.
• Project & Cost Analysis:
  • Evaluate project costs, material pricing trends, and scheduling impacts to support profitability goals.
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical pricing records, and project cost information.
  • Assist in developing estimating standards and best practices to improve consistency and efficiency.
• Systems & Documentation:
  • Utilize estimating software and ERP systems to manage project data and reporting.
  • Maintain organized records of bids, revisions, proposals, and customer communications.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating accuracy and workflow efficiency.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of estimating experience within PEMB, steel fabrication, commercial construction, or related industries
• Strong understanding of pre-engineered metal building systems and construction practices
• Experience interpreting architectural drawings, structural drawings, and technical bid documents
• Proven ability to prepare project estimates, proposals, contracts, and change orders
• Experience supporting competitive bid opportunities and customer negotiations is strongly preferred
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and estimating software platforms

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with MBS (Metal Building Software) or similar PEMB estimating platforms
• Senior-level estimating experience on large-scale commercial or industrial PEMB projects
• Knowledge of structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or commercial construction estimating
• Experience working directly with contractors, architects, and engineering teams
• Familiarity with project scheduling and production coordination.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred
