- Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
- Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
- Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
- Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
- Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work
- Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
- Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
- Establish and maintain tendering process, and conduct negotiations
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial construction estimating experience.
- Strong preference for experience in cast-in-place concrete construction.
- Previous experience mentoring, supervising, or managing estimators.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction plans, specifications, and
- Demonstrated ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and develop detailed
- Strong understanding of production rates and how they translate into labor,
equipment, material, and project cost assumptions.
- Proficiency with standard construction estimating software.
- Experience with Pro-Est is a plus.
- Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with commercial general
contractors.
- Ability to identify and clearly communicate value engineering opportunities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, bids, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working directly with commercial general contractors.
- Established relationships within the commercial construction industry.
- Experience with negotiated work, design-assist, or preconstruction services.
- Experience developing or improving estimating processes and systems.
- Experience managing or leading an estimating department.
This position is based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and operates within a
commercial construction and preconstruction environment. The role requires the ability
to manage multiple priorities, meet strict bid deadlines, communicate with internal and
external stakeholders, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
