Job summary

TGSV Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a Construction Estimator in the New York area to prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial projects, reading drawings and specs, and supporting bid submissions.

You will collaborate with preconstruction, project management, and subcontractors; utilize Procore, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, OST, and Excel; maintain cost databases and track market trends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience.
  • Experience with commercial projects (office, retail, healthcare, education, multifamily, or industrial).
  • Proficiency with estimating software and strong Excel skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents for accuracy.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and pricing analyses.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and final bid estimates.
  • Develop and maintain cost databases and historical pricing.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and contingencies.
  • Coordinate bid schedules and ensure timely submission.
  • Clarify scope gaps and overlaps; prepare bid summaries.
  • Assist in proposal materials and presentations.
  • Develop preliminary budgets and cost models; track market trends.

Job description

Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role analyzes project plans, specifications, and related documents to determine material, labor, and equipment costs. The Estimator works closely with preconstruction, project management, subcontractors, and clients to support successful bid submissions and project budgeting.

Key Responsibilities
Preconstruction & Estimating
  • Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and final bid estimates.
  • Develop and maintain cost databases and historical pricing.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Assess project risks and develop appropriate contingencies.
Bid Management
  • Coordinate bid schedules and ensure timely submission.
  • Clarify scope gaps and overlaps.
  • Prepare bid summaries and leveling sheets.
  • Participate in scope review meetings with subcontractors.
  • Assist in proposal preparation and presentation materials.
Cost Analysis & Budgeting
  • Develop preliminary budgets and cost models.
  • Perform cost comparisons and cost studies.
  • Support GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) development.
  • Track market trends and material cost fluctuations.
Collaboration
  • Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and preconstruction teams.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits.
  • Assist with handoff meetings to operations teams.
  • Maintain strong subcontractor and vendor relationships.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (preferred), or equivalent experience.
Experience
  • 2-5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience (depending on level).
  • Experience with commercial projects such as office, retail, healthcare, education, multifamily, or industrial.
Technical Skills
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, OST, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Strong Excel skills.
