Job summary

Van Lom Concrete in Beaverton, OR is seeking an Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates for foundations, slabs, walls, paving, and site concrete work. You will review plans, perform quantity takeoffs, solicit pricing, and develop bids to support project acquisition.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of concrete estimating experience, strong blueprint reading, Excel proficiency, and experience with Bluebeam or Tekla.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of estimating experience in concrete construction.
• Experience with commercial, industrial, or municipal concrete projects preferred.
• Knowledge of cast-in-place concrete, reinforced concrete, site concrete, and structural concrete construction methods.
• Strong understanding of concrete construction processes and sequencing.

Responsibilities

• Review construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project requirements.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for concrete materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracted work.
• Prepare accurate cost estimates and bid proposals for commercial, industrial, and public works projects.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Analyze project risks, site conditions, schedules, and logistics that may impact project costs.
• Maintain and update estimating databases, unit costs, and historical project information.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, superintendents, and operations staff during the bidding process.
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as required.
• Prepare bid packages, proposal documents, and estimate summaries for management review.
• Assist with value engineering and cost-saving recommendations.
• Stay current on market pricing, construction methods, building codes, and industry trends.
• Assist in pricing change orders as needed for the Operations team.

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for concrete construction projects, including foundations, slabs, walls, paving, structural concrete, and site concrete work. This position analyzes project plans and specifications, performs quantity takeoffs, solicits subcontractor and supplier pricing, and develops detailed bids to support the company's business development and project acquisition efforts.

Qualifications

Education

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Estimating, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

• 3+ years of estimating experience in concrete construction.
• Experience with commercial, industrial, or municipal concrete projects preferred.
• Knowledge of cast-in-place concrete, reinforced concrete, site concrete, and structural concrete construction methods.

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of concrete construction processes and sequencing.
• Proficiency in blueprint reading and specification review.
• Experience with quantity takeoff and estimating software (ie, Bluebeam, Tekla).
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Knowledge of construction contracts and bidding procedures.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to visit active construction sites and navigate uneven terrain.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while preparing estimates and bid documents.
• Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and pre-bid conferences.
