Job summary

Cape Cod Community College seeks part-time ESOL instructors for morning and afternoon face-to-face classes. Instructors will teach English to Speakers of Other Languages in a student-centered, inclusive setting following Massachusetts DESE guidelines.

Qualifications

Job Description

Reporting to the Adult Education Center Program Director of the Adult Education Center of CCCC (AEC), Instructors are responsible for teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in a respectful, student-centered, culturally inclusive setting while adhering to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidelines under the Adult and Community Learning Services (ACLS) unit. Seeking one (1) Instructor for face-to-face morning classes Monday & Wednesday, 9:30am-12:30pm, and two (2) Instructors for face-to-face afternoon classes Monday & Wednesday from 3:30pm-6:30pm.

Examples of Duties
  1. Align all curriculum, lesson plans, and instruction to incorporate lead learning standards from the Massachusetts ESOL Curriculum Frameworks and the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRSAE).
  2. Follow research-based best practices for effective adult learning when delivering the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the CCRSAE.
  3. Provide ongoing and measurable interactive activities that reinforce ESOL listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills with individuals, pair, or small groups.
  4. Use a variety of instructional methods, techniques, and tools, including, but not limited to scaffolding, higher-order thinking skills, and differentiated instruction to accommodate differences in learning styles, toward increasing student skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  5. Teach the required number of face-to-face sessions weekly/yearly, Monday and Wednesday, morning from 9:30 AM to 12:30PM, adding make-up sessions when required.
  6. Prepare and submit mandatory weekly lesson plans that align with the Massachusetts ESOL Curriculum Frameworks and CCRASE standards.
  7. With the Advisor on a bi-weekly basis, incorporate into the instruction period student Career and Education Plan activities, including but not limited to goal exploration, an inventory of each student’s interests/values/aspirations, skills inventory, computer exploration of occupational choices that relate to student interests and skills, and the exploration of career ladders.
  8. Monitor and record student attendance accurately, communicating attendance challenges daily to advising staff and/or program administrators, and submitting student and volunteer attendance records at the end of the last class of each month.
  9. Refer students to advising or administrative staff, when necessary.
  10. Continuous and timely communication with advising and administrative staff regarding any student, class, curriculum, and programmatic challenges or issues.
  11. Arrive for class at least 15 minutes in advance of scheduled start time.
  12. Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings.
  13. Attend mandatory in-house Summer Institute Professional Development.
  14. Submit required documentation in accordance with deadlines.
  15. Assist with intake, orientation, assessment, and advising.
  16. Arrange for substitute teachers when absent and provide appropriate lesson plans for them.
  17. Attend professional development opportunities as approved by the Director and required for program facilitation.
  18. Complete and document MCCC (E5) college service: monthly staff meetings, and professional development.
  19. Assist with curriculum development and other programmatic issues/events.
  20. Participate in training for MAPT and/or TABE testing administration certification, training and ensure ability to assist with administering MAPT and/or TABE tests for students.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in education or another related field.
  2. Three years or more experience in ESOL adult education, with demonstrated ability to relate to the needs and interests of adult students in face-to-face learning programs.
  3. Demonstrated ability to organize lesson plans, materials, as well as execute online textbook materials and activities.
  4. Demonstrated experience developing and using multimedia (audio, video, podcasts, online textbooks, etc.) for face-to-face student engagement in active and collaborative learning activities.
  5. Experience using evidence based best practices associated with online learning pedagogy (e.g., frequent communication, active learning practices, working individually or with others, etc.) that support student success in the digital literacy environment.
  6. Experience using ongoing formative and summative assessments to inform teaching.
  7. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  8. Excellent problem-solving skills.
  9. Excellent organizational skills.
  10. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
  11. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bilingual educator.
  2. Knowledge of the Massachusetts Adult Basic Education system.
  3. Knowledge of standardized assessments used in the Massachusetts Adult Basic Education system.
  4. Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Moodle.

Compensation

Anticipated starting (Interval 1) rate of $36.55 per hour for 6 hours of class time and 6 hours of planning per week, 1 hour/month for staff meetings and up to 9 hours/year of professional development, pre-approved by Program Director. Approximate period of employment: July 2026 - June 2027; part-time, non-benefited, grant funded MCCC Unit Position.
